The challenge
Packaging for export has to work harder than packaging at home. The same pack must stand out in a foreign freezer aisle, carry a brand’s heritage to shoppers who may not know it yet, and hold the information each market requires.
What we did
01
Pack designs created to stand out in international retail freezers, next to local and global brands.
02
A consistent look so every product reads as Vadilal across the range and across markets.
03
Layouts with room for the product information and labelling that export packs need.

We designed packaging for selected products in the Vadilal international range, built around three requirements:
The final designs are kept private at the client’s request. Product and market details will be added here only if Vadilal approves them.
At home, a well-known brand can rely on recognition. Abroad, many shoppers are meeting it for the first time. Export packaging has to introduce the brand, signal quality and explain the product quickly, without losing the identity that loyal customers already trust.
Frozen products are seen through glass doors, under bright light and often stacked side by side. Strong colour blocking, a clear product name and a visible flavour or product image matter more than fine detail that disappears behind frost and reflections.
Ingredient lists, allergen information, nutrition panels, storage instructions and importer details vary by market. Leaving room for them in the layout from the beginning avoids crowded, last-minute panels that weaken the design. In the United States, for example, the FDA food labeling rules set out what has to appear on the pack.
A range looks strongest when every product follows the same structure: logo position, colour coding, typography and photography style. A clear system also makes it faster to add new flavours or sizes later without starting from scratch.
Some of the best packaging work cannot be shown publicly, often because products are still launching or agreements restrict it. We describe the brief and approach for Vadilal here and keep the designs private, as the client requested.
A design that looks right on a monitor can disappear on a real shelf. Printing mockups at full size and viewing them next to competitor products, under shop lighting and from a few metres away, quickly shows whether the brand name and product are readable. Photographing the mockups also tests how the pack will look in online grocery listings, where many shoppers now see it first.
Export packs travel through cold storage, shipping containers and distribution centres before they reach a store. Outer cartons, barcode placement and print durability need the same attention as the front of pack, because a damaged or unscannable pack never reaches the shopper.
This approach suits food, beverage, personal care and consumer brands taking an established product into new countries, especially where the pack must work in retail chillers or freezers and carry market-specific labelling.
Whatever the category, the goal is the same as it was for this project: a pack that a first-time shopper in a new country can understand in a few seconds from across the aisle, and that a loyal customer still recognises instantly, in any country, as the brand they already know and trust.
For Vadilal the brand system came first, so every pack in the range shares the same structure and can be extended with new products later. Working this way also makes it easier to brief printers and co-packers in different countries, because the rules for logo placement, colour, typography and labelling zones are written down once and shared with everyone who produces the packs. That consistency protects the brand long after the first production run. Taking your products into a new market? Talk to us about export packaging.

Both show how a consistent brand carries from one product to a whole range, whether it lives on a freezer shelf, a smart home panel or a skincare bottle, and how early design decisions shape everything that follows. See all projects in our portfolio.
